I picked this out for my daughter who is the sports star. It is an easy way for her to work out when she is home from school yet be able to do some of the exercises she does at the sophisticated gym at school. Basically she does some fast paced workouts in various positions each at different weights. She is able to quickly adjust the weight and continue her exercise. If it were me I would typically use the same weight. As a parent I love how everything is contained (her room is still a mess but not the weights!). My daughter loves the quality and features of these weight. She is very particular on this topic.

I just received my Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells from Amazon, purchased recently in late 2025, so these should be the redesigned “Results Series” version with the supposedly upgraded metal selector disks meant to fix the issues that led to the big 2025 recall. Unfortunately, the problems persist. The plates still rattle excessively during any dynamic movement—like curls or presses—making workouts noisy and distracting. The locking mechanism feels only marginally better; weights sometimes hang up when trying to dock or undock them, and I’m constantly worried a plate might loosen despite the “enhancements.” They’re bulky, the handle grip is slippery when sweaty, and for the premium price, this just doesn’t feel like a reliable or high-quality piece of equipment. I expected the redesign to fully resolve the safety and durability concerns, but it falls short. Regret the purchase—looking to return and switch to a competitor’s adjustable dumbbells instead. Not worth the risk or frustration.
I screwed up and bought some knockoff version of these 1st and after almost breaking a toe from the plates flying off, I bought these and should have started with the Bowflex from the start! These are awesome! Great for 80% of my workouts at home without the footprint of a full he gym. I wish they had a 10-70lb range, but the 5-55 works.
These bowflex select tech dumbbells work very well. I use the full weight for doing flat and inverted bench presses and with a reduced weight for doing other exercises. They work very well. I don’t drop them though I feel the probably wouldn’t take the beating too well.
So far, so good. I've been waiting to buy this set for a couple of years and finally decided to go for it. The only thing I've noticed so far is that one of the weights gets a little more stuck pulling it out and putting it back in, but it's not too noticeable.
